Early Life and Family

Millie Bonnie Bongiovi was born on February 19, 2004, in Marbella, Andalusia, Spain. She is the third of four children born to British parents, Kelly and Robert Brown. The family relocated to Bournemouth, England when she was four years old, and then moved to Orlando, Florida, when she was eight. Bongiovi was born with partial hearing in her left ear and gradually lost all hearing in that ear over several years.

For her education, she was homeschooled during her teenage years to accommodate her acting career. She later enrolled in an online program at Purdue University to study human services.

Career Beginnings

After an acting workshop, a talent scout noticed Bongiovi and advised her parents that she had a natural talent for acting. Her family then traveled to Los Angeles to meet with talent agencies. In 2013, she made her acting debut in the ABC fantasy series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland as Young Alice. The following year, she had a starring role in the BBC America series Intruders as Madison O’Donnell. She also had guest appearances in shows such as NCIS, Modern Family, and Grey’s Anatomy.

Breakthrough with ‘Stranger Things’

Bongiovi’s breakthrough role came when she was cast as Eleven in the Netflix science fiction series Stranger Things. The show, which first aired in 2016, became a global phenomenon. Her portrayal of the character with psychokinetic abilities earned her critical acclaim, including two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. For her work on the show, she also received two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series and won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series along with the main cast.

Major Film and Production Work

Following her success on television, Bongiovi transitioned to film. She made her feature film debut in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and reprised her role in the sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong (2021).
