Early Life and Education
Zachary Yadegari was born and raised in Roslyn, on Long Island, New York. His interest in computers and coding began at a young age. At age seven, his mother enrolled him in a summer coding camp. He supplemented this early instruction by teaching himself through online tutorials. By the age of 10, Yadegari was teaching other children how to code for an hourly fee.
Throughout high school, he maintained a 4.0 GPA and achieved a 34 on the ACT. Despite these academic credentials, his applications to several top universities were rejected. Yadegari ultimately enrolled at the University of Miami. He initially entered the business school before switching his major to philosophy.
Entrepreneurial Beginnings
Yadegari’s entrepreneurial ventures started in his early teens. At age 12, he developed and released his first mobile game, called Speed Soccer. Two years later, at 14, he created Totally Science, a website that allowed students to access unblocked video games on school networks. Founding of Cal AI
The inspiration for Yadegari’s next major venture, Cal AI, arose from personal experience. While trying to gain weight and build muscle, he found existing calorie-tracking applications to be tedious and difficult to use consistently. This identified a market opportunity for a more user-friendly solution.
