Additionally, Vice President JD Vance publicly condemned Fuentes for making racist remarks against Vance's wife, stating that "anyone who attacks my wife… can eat s***."

Early Life and Education

Nicholas Joseph Fuentes was born on August 18, 1998, to William and Lauren Fuentes. He was raised in La Grange Park, Illinois, and has claimed Italian, Irish, and Mexican heritage. Fuentes attended Lyons Township High School, where he served as president of the student council. While in high school, he began commentating on politics through a local radio and TV station affiliated with the school.

After graduating from high school in 2016, Fuentes enrolled at Boston University to study international relations and politics. In August 2017, he attended the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Subsequently, he dropped out of the university, citing that he had received threats due to his attendance at the rally.

Career Beginnings

Fuentes started his political activism after graduating from high school in 2016. In 2017, during his freshman year at Boston University, he began hosting a live-stream show called America First with Nicholas J. Fuentes. The show originally aired on the Right Side Broadcasting Network. However, the network severed ties with him after his participation in the “Unite the Right” rally. The show became known for promoting views described as white nationalist. His followers became known as “Groypers.”

Rise to Prominence

By 2019, Fuentes and his “Groypers” gained wider attention by engaging in public confrontations with mainstream conservative figures, an effort dubbed the “Groyper War.” They attended events hosted by organizations like Turning Point USA, challenging speakers on issues such as immigration and U.S. support for Israel. Fuentes accused these mainstream conservative groups of being insufficiently aligned with his principles.

In 2020, Fuentes established the America First Foundation and launched the America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC). The conference is held annually as an alternative to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). AFPAC has featured speakers including politicians like Paul Gosar and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Fuentes has also been removed from CPAC events.

Public Profile and Controversies

In November 2022, he and the artist formerly known as Kanye West had a private dinner with President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence.

Fuentes was present at rallies preceding the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, and was later subpoenaed by the House committee investigating the event. His YouTube channel was permanently suspended in February 2020, and he has been banned from numerous other social media platforms. He describes his own views as those of a “Christian conservative” and an “American nationalist.”
