Kristin Elizabeth Cavallari was born on January 5, 1987, in Denver, Colorado, to Judith Eifrig and Dennis Cavallari. She is of Italian descent through her father and German descent through her mother. Following her parents’ divorce, Cavallari moved with her mother to Barrington, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.
She attended Barrington Station Middle School and her first year of high school at Barrington High School. Afterwards, Cavallari relocated to Laguna Beach, California, to live with her father and older brother, Michael. She graduated from Laguna Beach High School in 2005. Cavallari briefly attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles before leaving to pursue a career in entertainment. In 2015, her brother Michael died from hypothermia following a car crash.
Beginnings in Reality Television
In 2004, while a junior at Laguna Beach High School, Kristin Elizabeth Cavallari was cast in the MTV reality television series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. The series documented the lives of her and several classmates, and a central plotline of the first season focused on a love triangle between Cavallari, Stephen Colletti, and Lauren Conrad. For the second season, Cavallari took over as the show’s narrator.
Rise with The Hills
After moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, Kristin Elizabeth Cavallari appeared in minor television roles. In 2009, she joined the cast of the Laguna Beach spin-off, The Hills, following the departure of original cast member Lauren Conrad. Cavallari became the new central figure and narrator for the remainder of the series until its conclusion in 2010.
Following The Hills, she continued to appear on television. She had roles in films such as Van Wilder: Freshman Year and made guest appearances on series like CSI: NY and The League. In 2011, she competed in the 13th season of Dancing with the Stars.

Cavallari and Cutler announced their separation in April 2020, and their divorce was finalized in 2022. They share custody of their children.
