Early life and family

De’Aaron Martez Fox was born on December 20, 1997, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Aaron and Lorainne Harris-Fox. Both of his parents were college athletes; his father played football at Fort Hays State University, and his mother played basketball at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. The family, which also includes his brother Quentin, eventually settled in Katy, Texas.

Fox attended Cypress Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. As a junior, he averaged 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. His performance improved in his senior year, when he averaged 32.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. During his high school career, Fox was named a McDonald’s All-American and participated in the Jordan Brand Classic, where he was named co-MVP. He was a highly-rated, five-star recruit.

College career

Fox played one season of college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats. During the 2016-2017 season, he was a key player for the team. In a game against Arizona State, he recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, becoming only the second player in Kentucky’s history to do so. He averaged 16.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game during his time with the Wildcats.

His performance earned him several accolades, including First-team All-SEC honors and the SEC Tournament MVP award. He was also named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. After leading Kentucky to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, Fox declared for the 2017 NBA draft, forgoing his final three years of college eligibility.

Professional career

De’Aaron Martez Fox was selected as the fifth overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 2017 NBA Draft and signed his rookie contract on July 8, 2017. He made his NBA debut on October 18, 2017.

In November 2020, Fox signed a multi-year contract extension with the Kings. He achieved a then career-high 39 points on July 31, 2020. During the 2022–23 season, he was named to his first NBA All-Star Game and was also selected for the All-NBA Third Team. A significant milestone that season was leading the Kings to their first playoff appearance since 2006. Fox was also named the inaugural NBA Clutch Player of the Year for his performance in critical moments of the game. The following season, he led the league in steals.

Personal life

De’Aaron Martez Fox is married to Recee Caldwell, and they have two children, a son named Reign and a daughter named Poppy. He also has another son, Kai, from a previous relationship.

Influenced by his mother, Lorraine Harris-Fox, a breast cancer survivor, he and his family established the Fox Whole Family Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to supporting breast cancer survivors and underprivileged youth. For several seasons, the Kings organization supported this cause by hosting breast health awareness nights.
