At the age of eight, her family relocated to Mill Valley, California, where she developed an early interest in acting and began participating in local theater productions. She became the youngest performer in the San Francisco Fringe Festival. By the age of eleven, she had secured an agent to pursue a professional acting career.
Following her early acting career, Mendler pursued higher education. She attended the University of Southern California (USC) and earned a degree in Anthropology in 2016. She subsequently appeared in films such as Alice Upside Down (2007), The Clique (2008), and Labor Pains (2009). A significant breakthrough came when she signed with the Disney Channel. She played the recurring role of Juliet van Heusen on Wizards of Waverly Place from 2009 to 2012.
Her lead role as Teddy Duncan in the Disney Channel series Good Luck Charlie, which aired from 2010 to 2014, brought her widespread recognition.
