Early Life and Athletic Career

Brandon Orlando Tatum was born on April 22, 1987, in Fort Worth, Texas. His father, Bobby Tatum, served as a Deputy Chief in the Fort Worth Fire Department. His great uncle is Jack Tatum, a former Ohio State All-American, NFL All-Pro, and Super Bowl champion with the Oakland Raiders.

At Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, Tatum was an All-American football player and was featured in the U.S. Army All-American Game, which showcases the top high school football players in the nation. In 2004, he accepted a full athletic scholarship to play football at the University of Arizona. Tatum played for the university for five years and later entered the 2010 NFL draft, though he was not selected. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Arizona.

Law Enforcement Service

After his football career, Brandon Orlando Tatum joined the Tucson Police Department. He served with the department for six years, during which he held several roles, including SWAT operator, field training officer, general instructor, and public information officer. Tatum has stated that a ride-along with an officer named Sean Payne inspired him to pursue a career in law enforcement. He has also spoken about having negative encounters with police during his youth.

Transition to Conservative Commentary

Tatum first gained public attention in early 2016 for a viral video he recorded at a campaign rally for then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. In the video, he expressed feeling unsafe due to the presence of protesters. He went viral again in September 2017 for a video in which he voiced his opposition to NFL players kneeling during the national anthem.

In October 2017, Tatum resigned from the Tucson Police Department to join Liftable Media, a conservative media company. He then became the director of urban engagement for Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organization. In late 2019, he founded his own media company.

Brandon Orlando Tatum hosts the YouTube channel “The Officer Tatum,” where he provides commentary on politics and cultural issues from a conservative perspective. He also hosts a nationally syndicated radio program, The Officer Tatum Show, which is distributed by the Salem Radio Network.
