His father is actor and director Rakesh Roshan, and his mother, Pinkie, is the daughter of producer and director J. Om Prakash. His actual surname is Nagrath, with “Roshan” being a tribute to his paternal grandfather, Roshanlal Nagrath, a noted music director in Bollywood. The family has a mixed heritage of Punjabi and Bengali descent.
Nagrath’s paternal grandfather, Roshanlal Nagrath, was a music composer from Gujranwala, which is now in Pakistan. His paternal grandmother, Ira Nagrath, was a Bengali singer.
