Amy Beth Schumer was born on June 1, 1981, in Manhattan, New York. Her parents are Sandra Jane and Gordon David Schumer. Her father owned a successful baby furniture company, and the family was wealthy during her early childhood. When she was nine years old, her father’s business went bankrupt, and he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Her parents divorced when she was 12.
Following the divorce, Schumer moved to Long Island with her mother and younger sister, Kim Caramele. She also has an older half-brother, Jason Stein, from her mother’s previous marriage. Schumer attended South Side High School in Rockville Centre, where she was voted “Class Clown” and “Teacher’s Worst Nightmare” before graduating in 1999. In February 2024, she announced that she had been diagnosed with Cushing’s syndrome. In December 2025, Schumer announced her separation from Fischer.
