Benson James Boone (born June 25, 2002) is an American singer-songwriter from Monroe, Washington, who gained prominence through the social media platform TikTok. He is known for his emotive pop songs, including the internationally recognized singles “Ghost Town” and “Beautiful Things.”

Early Life and Education

Benson James Boone was born in Monroe, Washington, to parents Kerry and Nate Boone. He is the only son among four sisters: Kaylee, Natalee, Emma, and Claire. Boone was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He attended Monroe High School, where he was a member of the diving and tennis teams, graduating in 2020. His musical talents emerged during his junior year when a friend asked him to play the piano and sing for a battle of the bands. After high school, Boone enrolled at Brigham Young University–Idaho for one semester before leaving to concentrate on his music career.

Career Beginnings on Social Media and American Idol

Inspired after attending a Jon Bellion concert, Boone began to take singing more seriously. He started posting videos of his singing on TikTok, where he quickly gained a following.

In early 2021, Boone auditioned for the 19th season of the music competition show American Idol. Although he earned a spot in the Top 24, he voluntarily withdrew from the competition to focus on his career, stating he wanted to be known for his own music rather than for his participation in the show.

Breakthrough with “Ghost Town”

Boone continued to build his audience on TikTok, amassing 1.7 million followers before the release of his first single. His talent caught the attention of Dan Reynolds, the frontman of the band Imagine Dragons, who signed Boone to his record label, Night Street Records, in partnership with Warner Records.

On October 15, 2021, Boone released his debut single, “Ghost Town.” He played drums, guitar, and piano on the track and also created the single’s artwork. The song achieved international success, charting in multiple countries and reaching number one in Norway. In the United States, it reached number 100 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Major Releases and Tours

Following the success of “Ghost Town,” Boone released several other singles, including “In the Stars” in April 2022. His debut EP, Walk Me Home, was released in July of that year. He followed this with another EP, Pulse, in 2023.

In January 2024, Boone released the single “Beautiful Things.” The song became a major international hit, topping the charts in numerous countries and reaching number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. The success of the single preceded his debut studio album, Fireworks & Rollerblades, which was released in April 2024 and peaked at number six on the US Billboard 200. In June 2024, he was an opening act for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in London. His second studio album, American Heart, was released in 2025.

Personal Life

Boone was raised in the LDS Church but has stated that he no longer exclusively identifies with the church. He maintains some of the values from his upbringing, such as abstaining from alcohol and drugs. He has been in a relationship with actress and social media influencer Maggie Thurmon.
