Early life

Jahmyr Gibbs was born on March 20, 2002, in Dalton, Georgia. He was primarily raised by his grandmother, Angela Willis, and faced challenges that included periods of homelessness. At the age of 15, he was adopted by Greg and Dusty Ross.

Gibbs attended Dalton High School, where he became a standout football player. In his senior year, he rushed for 2,554 yards and 40 touchdowns, earning recognition as the Georgia 6-A 2020 Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-American by Sports Illustrated. He completed his high school career with 4,882 rushing yards and 70 touchdowns.

College career

Gibbs began his collegiate career at Georgia Tech in 2020. In his first season, despite being limited by injury, he was named a second-team freshman All-American by The Athletic and received an honorable mention All-ACC as a return specialist. During his sophomore season in 2021, he earned first-team All-ACC honors as an all-purpose back.

In 2022, Gibbs transferred to the University of Alabama. In his lone season with the Crimson Tide, he led the team in rushing with 926 yards and seven touchdowns. He also proved to be a significant threat in the passing game, leading the team with 44 receptions for 444 yards and three touchdowns. His performance earned him second-team All-SEC recognition.

Professional career

The Detroit Lions selected Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, as the 12th overall pick. In his debut NFL season, he rushed for 945 yards and ten touchdowns, adding 52 receptions for 316 yards and one receiving touchdown. His performance earned him a selection to the Pro Bowl and a place on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. In his rookie year, he became the third rookie in Lions history to achieve over 1,000 scrimmage yards and 10 scrimmage touchdowns.

In his second season, Gibbs continued to excel, earning another Pro Bowl selection. He set a Detroit Lions franchise record for the most touchdowns in a single season.
