Latest News (Jan 1, 2026): Brooks Koepka has announced his departure from LIV Golf after the 2025 season, citing a desire to prioritize family time, with Talor Gooch stepping in to replace him as captain of Smash GC. This move, confirmed on December 24, 2025, sparks speculation about a potential return to the PGA Tour, though he faces a ban until at least August 2026.

Early Life and Amateur Career

Brooks Koepka was born on May 3, 1990, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and grew up in Lake Worth. At the age of 10, he began playing golf after a car accident resulted in facial injuries that prevented him from participating in contact sports. He attended Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach.

Koepka played collegiate golf at Florida State University, where he was a three-time All-American and won three events. As an amateur, he qualified for the 2012 U.S. Open, though he missed the cut. His great-uncle, Dick Groat, was a professional baseball player who won two World Series and was the 1960 National League MVP.

Professional Beginnings

In 2012, Brooks Koepka turned professional and started his career on the European Challenge Tour. He won his first professional event, the Challenge de Catalunya, in September of that year. The following year, he secured two more victories on the Challenge Tour: the Montecchia Golf Open and the Fred Olsen Challenge de España. His success on the Challenge Tour earned him a spot on the European Tour. In 2014, he won the Turkish Airlines Open and was named the European Tour Rookie of the Year.

PGA Tour Breakthrough

Brooks Koepka joined the PGA Tour in 2015 and won his first event, the Waste Management Phoenix Open, that same year. This victory marked his arrival as a significant competitor on the American circuit. He continued to perform consistently, setting the stage for his breakthrough in major championships.

Major Championship Dominance

Brooks Koepka’s first major championship victory came at the 2017 U.S. Open. He successfully defended his U.S. Open title in 2018, a feat that highlighted a remarkable period of dominance in major tournaments. During this time, he also won the PGA Championship in both 2018 and 2019, becoming the first golfer in history to hold back-to-back titles in two different majors simultaneously.

After experiencing a period of injury struggles, he won his fifth major at the 2023 PGA Championship. This victory made him the 20th golfer to win five major championships.

LIV Golf Career

In June 2022, Brooks Koepka joined the LIV Golf League and became the captain of Smash GC. His 2023 PGA Championship win was the first major victory for a member of LIV Golf. He has achieved significant success on the circuit, becoming the first player to claim five individual LIV Golf titles. His brother, Chase, also a professional golfer, was a former member of his LIV Golf team.
