Early Life and Education
James Thomas Fishback was born on January 1, 1995, in Davie, Florida. A fourth-generation Floridian, his mother is an immigrant from Colombia, and his father worked as a tree trimmer and later a bus driver. He was raised in South Florida and attended public schools in Broward County.
Fishback enrolled at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service to study international economics. He left the university at age 21 before completing his degree to begin a career in finance.
Finance Career
In 2021, Fishback joined Greenlight Capital, a hedge fund managed by David Einhorn, as a research analyst and trader. He left the firm in 2023. A legal dispute arose over his role at the company, with Fishback claiming he was promoted to “Head of Macro,” a title the firm stated never existed. The parties settled in September 2025, with Fishback acknowledging he had breached his employment agreement by sharing confidential information and operating an undisclosed trading account.
In 2023, Fishback founded Azoria Partners, an investment management firm with a focus on global macro strategies. In 2025, Azoria launched an exchange-traded fund (ETF), the Azoria 500 Meritocracy ETF, which tracks the S&P 500 but excludes companies with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.
Incubate Debate
In 2019, Fishback founded Incubate Debate, a non-profit organization that provides low-cost debate tournaments and training for middle and high school students. The initiative was created to offer an alternative to traditional debate leagues. In 2024, the Bill of Rights Institute acquired Incubate Debate.
2026 Gubernatorial Candidacy
On November 24, 2025, James Thomas Fishback announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 2026 Florida gubernatorial election. He is running to succeed the term-limited incumbent, Ron DeSantis, whose record he has praised.
A central theme of his campaign is affordability, with a particular focus on making housing more attainable. His policy proposals include eliminating property taxes on homestead properties and banning investment firms from purchasing single-family homes. He also opposes the construction of AI data centers in Florida, citing concerns about energy and water resources.
On immigration, Fishback supports a complete moratorium and has called for the abolition of the H-1B visa program. He also supports a complete ban on abortion, including in cases of rape and incest. Fishback maintains a public presence on his YouTube channel, which bears his name.
The "50-year mortgage" is a disgusting insult. We are Americans. We are not slaves. We are not slaves to the plantation owner. We are not slaves to China. And we are not slaves to Wall Street. This 50-year mortgage idea is a spit in the face. It is an insult. We did not vote for… pic.twitter.com/2EG74pYRqe
