David Smith was born on April 20, 1983, and was raised in Brooklyn, New York City, by his single mother. He is of Jewish heritage and has spoken about the influence of his background, noting that his maternal grandmother was a Holocaust survivor. Smith’s grandfather was a refugee from Germany who later enlisted in the US Army and fought in World War II.
For his education, Smith attended both public and private schools in Brooklyn, including PS 107 and the Berkeley Carroll School for middle and high school. He then attended Morrisville State College before transferring to the University at Albany, where he graduated with a degree in history.
Beginnings in Comedy
Smith began his stand-up comedy career in New York City, performing at various venues.
